This nature show lasted for over an hour, and my attention remained acutely focused on what was happening right in front of me. It was a much needed reprieve from the seemingly unyielding chaos of life. No thoughts. No worries. No stress... Just the moment.
This is the gift of yoga: the moment.
Yes, yoga helps us access more strength and flexibility of both body and mind; But, more importantly, it teaches us how to give our attention to what is happening in the present moment...whether that moment lies in dishes being washed, a commute to work, a shared conversation....or the observation of an ocean feeding frenzy. This is life; and, life is happening every single second of every single minute of every single day. Do you experience it with full awareness? Or do your thoughts get in the way?
If thoughts are your obstacle, the solution is simple: yoga. Train yourself to be present with life as it unfolds in real time. As Ram Dass so wisely said, “Be here now.”
And, as we so wisely say, be here now... and also be in Virginia Beach this October for Drishti Fest. A weekend of yoga can change you life by teaching you how to experience it.
And that, ladies and gents, is enlightenment.
